Jazz, Broadway, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Contemporary, Ballet

Founder and Principal, Linda Peters grew up dancing in Launceston and attended the Launceston Dance Academy, Vicki Press Dancers and Tapestry Dance Studio. Miss Linda moved to Melbourne at 16 to refine her skills. Upon returning to Launceston, she opened the doors to Classique Dancentre in 1985, and has grown the studio since then to what you see today.
Throughout the years Miss Linda has choreographed numerous National Title winning routines as well as created a foundation for many students to go on to have professional dance careers or become teachers themselves. Her dedication and expertise have made Classique Dancentre a cornerstone of the local Launceston dance community.

What is your favourite dance style to teach and why?
I enjoy teaching all genres of dance but my first love is old school jazz. My love of this style stems from my most favourite musicals - A Chorusline, West side story, Flashdance & many more. I love being able to pass this onto my students to enable them the become technical dancers giving them the ability to tackle any dance genre with ease.

What is your favourite part about teaching dance?
Watching beginners walk through the studio door and watching them become the best they can be. I’m very old school in my teaching approach & discipline plays a big role in lessons. I like to encourage the children to participate in class on their own no matter how young they are. To watch them grow in confidence every week to eventually, when they are ready, making their stage debut as happy, clever, confident & very excited little performers if so fulfilling.

What is one piece of advice you give to all of your students?
Again I have so many! Hard work pays off – stay humble but always be hungry to achieve more! Dance is very subjective unlike any other sport. We don’t achieve by scoring goals, running fast or hitting a ball the furthest. Our achievements are purely based on one person’s opinion on the day of our performance. Celebrate the highs and learn from the disappointments.

Can you share a memorable moment from your teaching career?
Eeeek….. Way too many to list!! I have some amazing students persuing their dreams, dancing up a storm within Australia & overseas. The thrill to know I have helped them live those dreams. Or when a former student has such love, faith, enjoyment & trust that they enroll their children and you watch their children follow in Mum’s footsteps - what a full circle moment!

STACIE LEE BULK
Teacher / Choreographer
Tap

Stacie-Lee Bulk started dancing at Tapestry Dance Studio, where her love of Tap began at just 3 years old. By the age of 6 she had started Jazz and Ballet and throughout this time completed both Tap and Ballet exams.
At 17, Stacie turned her focus to her Beauty Therapy work which then turned into owning her own business. A few years later, she joined the cast of The Show Club and her passion for dance was reignited and this was when she joined Classique Dancentre where she danced for another 2 years.
Flash forward to 2022 and Stacie was offered the opportunity to become the first ever Tap Teacher at Classique Dancentre and since starting, nearly all of Stacie’s tap routines have gained a place at competitions – what an achievement!
What is your favourite part about teaching dance?
Watching kids learn something new and when they walk away and come back the next week and they get it. Watching their faces light up with joy is something that makes me truly happy!
Can you share a memorable moment from your teaching career?
A memorable moment for me was my first competitions, I was so nervous I did not sleep the night before! The kids did such an incredible job and they blew my expectations out of the water – every single item placed which I never expected!
What is one piece of advice you give to all of your students?
Dancing is a beautiful way to express your feelings and emotions. When you give in and let your feelings and emotions come through your routines, it can be a beautiful thing to watch!

ALEX PETERS
Teacher / Choreographer
Lyrical, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Contemporary

Alex Peters, daughter of Miss Linda, has lived and breathed dance since the moment she was born. Although not always the hardest working or successful student for most of her youth (which she now regrets…), her passion for choreography sparked from a very early age.
Miss Alex started teaching at Classique in 2019 and since then has been a prime example that “you didn’t have to be an amazing dancer to be a great teacher”. All the hours growing up within the studio watching Miss Linda work her magic, every minute was absorbed.
Since starting teaching, Miss Alex has already received multiple Choreography Awards for her group routines at Nation-Wide competitions.
What is your favourite dance style to teach and why?
Lyrical for sure, because I absolutely love playing around with storytelling through dance. I try really hard where I can to choose songs or themes that the students can really connect to personally.
Can you share a memorable moment from your teaching career?
Honestly, our voice critique from Shannon Atkins from Broadway Dance Centre in New York at National Finals last year for my lyrical group “Rise Up” has probably been the highlight of my teaching career so far. She made multiple comments about the choreography throughout the critique but the standout was that “every dancer in this routine has been showcased, everyone has been noticed”. This is so important to me as a teacher and this comment will stick with me forever!
What do you hope your students gain from your classes?
Of course I hope they gain a strong foundation in the dancing itself, but I also want them to just love what they do. Not every student that walks through the door is going to go on to have a career in dance, but every one of them can have a passion that lasts them a lifetime. I would love to be a part of the reason they are so passionate about dance.
What is one piece of advice you give to all of your students?
Don’t worry about what anyone else is doing, focus on your own path and your own journey, that’s how you’re going to become the best dancer that you can be and gain the most out of your time.

JOSEPHINE DELPORT
Ballet Teacher / Choreographer
Ballet

Josephine Delport danced with Classique Dancentre, before moving to Sydney in 2017 to pursue full time Ballet and Contemporary training with Alegria Dance Studies. Here she completed her RAD Advanced 2 and Advanced 1 Cecchetti exams.
Josephine was then accepted into multiple pre-professional Ballet courses including Alberta Ballet School, Scottish Royal Conservatoire, Queensland Ballet Academy, Cape Academy of Arts, National School of Arts and her dream school – the English National Ballet School (ENBS).
Josephine spent the next 3 years studying at ENBS and graduated with a Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance. Josephine then went on to spend 2 years performing with Joburg Ballet in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Josephine returned to Launceston in 2023 and we are so incredibly lucky to have her as a part of the team at Classique!
What is your favourite style to teach and why?
My love of ballet and everything I have learnt throughout my career, I can now teach to my students and watch how they grow with this knowledge. It is a style that needs a lot of precision, strength and artistry and is the technical base for most styles of dance. I look forward to seeing this technical training translate to the other forms of dance taught at Classique.
What do you enjoy most about working with the students?
I enjoy that every day I teach I see constant encouragement between the dancers and the love they have for the art. There is always a positive energy and an eagerness to learn, even if I know they are tired. I see the hard work they put in and the improvement week to week.
What is one piece of advice you give to all of your students?
That you have to keep in mind you will have good days and bad days. You must never become complacent on your good days – there is always so much more to learn and to never get down on your bad days. It’s important to listen to your body and not let a hard day stop you from engaging and taking in useful information.
